BIHAR KI MITHAI
From the Bengali mishtis to Bihar ki Mithai, lets go to the Bihar belt for their traditional mouthwatering mithais. Since I have lived there for some time , each mithai here has a tale to tell.
Let me begin with my all time favourite Thekua a dry sweet very popular for centuries in Bihar and Jharkhand. This is a prasad offered to God in the Chhath puja. This sweet is so tempting that you simply can’t stop with one .
Each festival here has a special mithai. Malpua is a traditional Bihari dessert that is relished particularly during Holi. I personally prefer having it with rabri garnished with dry fruits. The resulting taste is Yummmm. Speaking of Holi , How can I not mention the ever popular Pedukiya or Gujiya . This mithai with different types of fillings is a must during this colourful festival.
Since Dusherah is round the corner I am reminded of Lakhto and Khaaja – these are common household sweets made during these times..
Most of the above mentioned mithais are made of aata or maida , sugar chashni and fried in ghee. and the plus point is they remain good to eat for a long time.
Another very unique sweet preparation in Bihar is the dessert made from the vegetable Parwal. I really enjoy the outer texture of the parwal soaked in chashni stuffed with maava and dry fruits.
Let me also tell you about one of the most loved Bihari sweets – the Kaala-Jamun. This mithai got its name because of its blackish tinge and is made of khoya. It can be considered a cousin of the ever popular sweet Gulaab jaamun.
I cannot leave this region without making a mention of the traditional Jharkand desserts –Anarasa, Dudhauri and Makhana Kheer.
All this feasting on Bihar ki Mithai has increased my calorie count . no doubt you will also feel the same when u visit this region and taste all these mouth watering Bihar ki mithais. All sweet lovers await some more interesting desserts of various regions of India.
